Profile

Amal Abdul Latif Al-Kuwari is Head of Programme Preparation and Follow-up at Qatar Radio and a specialist in preparing and supervising live and recorded radio programmes.

A Home that Awakened a Love of Words

She was born in Old Al Rayyan into a large, close-knit family governed by affection and respect. Her childhood was quiet and simple. Her father worked as an engineer at the Ministry of Electricity, while her mother devoted her time to raising her alongside three sisters and a maternal half-brother. She also maintained a strong bond with her paternal half-siblings.

Afternoons were spent with neighbours and siblings, playing popular games, helping her mother or reading from a substantial family collection. Her mother’s love of books and her father’s knowledge of poetry, languages and local and international culture made reading part of everyday life. Cartoons and radio stories further stimulated an interest in narrative and children’s content.

Writing Begins Early

Writing began in childhood and developed through middle and secondary school, where she received full marks in composition. Teachers encouraged her to preserve observations and thoughts in a diary. Her sister, writer Widad Al-Kuwari, offered another example of how private attention to language could become professional work.

After Al Rayyan Preparatory School and a distinguished secondary record, she studied social work at Qatar University. Courses in children’s programme preparation in Qatar, Syria and Egypt added specialist training to the degree.

First Steps behind the Microphone

Her first professional role after university was writing radio programmes for children. Her husband supported the choice, while officials at Qatar Media Corporation recognised her talent and encouraged her development within the field she had loved since childhood.

Tests that Build Maturity

The death of her father became the most painful turning point in her life. During the final month of pregnancy with her daughter, she continued meeting professional duties while accompanying him through illness, hospitalisation and intensive care until his death.

Appointment as Head of Programme Preparation and Follow-up at Qatar Radio brought a different form of responsibility. She assembled a capable and committed team and supervised the preparation of live and recorded programmes, treating the confidence placed in her as an obligation to raise both the quality and originality of the work.

When Passion Prevails

Her completed work included writing children’s programmes for radio and preparing television content with the late Mohammed Al-Lingawi. She also prepared a popular operetta for children and worked with Sawt Al Khaleej Radio on a collection of Qatari songs written for young audiences.

Programmes she prepared received recognition and awards at festivals in Egypt and Tunisia. Across writing, preparation and supervision, she realised the ambition formed in childhood while balancing a demanding broadcasting career with responsibility towards her husband and four children.
